I’m Shabaan, an editorial wedding photographer based in Birmingham and chasing stories across the UK. Think Vogue-worthy portraits without the awkward, plus candid frames that fling you right back to the feeling. Ready to swap stiff poses for the real stuff?

Birmingham Wedding Photographer

I’m based in Birmingham, but I’m not tied to it. Most of my work moves between cities anyway. London, Cardiff, Manchester, Lake District, wherever it makes sense. Birmingham just happens to be where I reset between shoots.
What I do sits somewhere between editorial and documentary, but not in the way people usually describe it. It’s not about pretending nothing is happening. It’s about shaping moments without flattening them. I’ll step in when it needs direction, especially during portraits, but I’m not turning the whole day into a production.
You’re not going to get that overly polished, Pinterest version of a wedding. No forced laughter, no constant kissing prompts every five seconds. The focus is more on presence. How people lean into each other. The small adjustments. The way someone stands when they’re comfortable versus when they’re being watched. That kind of thing sticks more than anything staged.
a Bit more about me
I work mostly with couples who are fine being seen a bit. Not performative, just comfortable enough to lean into it. If you like the idea of portraits that feel closer to fashion than tradition, that’s where this starts to click. Clean tones, true-to-colour, nothing overly filtered or stylised to death. There’s still space for everything else during the day. Guests, family, the louder moments, the quieter ones that usually get missed. I’m relaxed with it until I need to be direct. Timelines shift, things run late, light disappears faster than expected. That’s usually when I switch gears and move things along properly.
⸻
Most of the weddings I shoot aren’t locked into one format. Some are full-day coverage in Birmingham or London. Others are smaller, more stripped back, especially in places like the Lake District or along the coast. I’m open to all of it as long as it fits the way I work.
⸻
Culturally, I’m selective. If the structure of the day doesn’t allow for any space, or if everything needs to stay very traditional and fixed, I’m probably not the best fit. The work leans on a bit of freedom. Movement, interaction, moments that aren’t being controlled every second.
⸻
From a practical side, I’ll guide where it matters. Group photos don’t drag. Couple portraits don’t feel awkward or over-rehearsed. You won’t be left standing there wondering what to do, but you also won’t be micromanaged into something that doesn’t feel like you. Most people I work with say it felt easier than expected. That they forgot I was there at points, then suddenly I’m directing something properly when it counts. That balance is intentional. Too hands-off and things fall flat. Too controlled and it stops feeling real.
⸻
If you’re planning something in Birmingham, or further out in places like London or the Lake District, and the work lines up with how you want things to feel, then it’s worth a conversation.
Not a long pitch. Just enough to figure out if it makes sense to move forward.

Let's connect

If you’re looking for wedding photography that feels editorial but still human, I’d love to hear what you’re planning. Share your date, venue/location, and a rough idea of coverage, and I’ll confirm availability and send over the next steps. If it’s a good fit, we’ll book a quick call and build something that feels intentional, not templated.
